RE: Average speed of different modalities
toggle
Hello!

I have been looking trough google, but without any luck. Do you know what are the average driving / flying speeds of different modalities - plane, ship, truck and train.

Thanks. A source would be appreciated.

The average speed for different transport modes depends on various factors, for example, trade lane, weather, infrastructure, equipment types, etc. Instead of a general analysis it may be better to select an origin-destination trade lane.

Yes, you are right. I think I should have positioned my question a bit differently.
I know that there are either governmental organizations or multinational service providers that are measuring the average speed of rail/road/sea/air transport. I am specifically interested in road transport in Europe.
I need this information to realize what are the distances that trucks can drive in one day. But I really can't find any solid information. I found somewhere that in America it is 55 mph (= 88km/h). But that seems way to high for European roads.
